Graduate Employment Survey 2007 - SoA Graduates Secure Jobs Sooner and at Higher Starting Salaries

According to the results of the SMU Graduate Employment Survey 2007, not only did all the economically active School of Accountancy (SoA) graduate respondents find jobs within 6 months after graduation, but they also secured jobs earlier and drew higher starting salaries than their seniors in 2006.

SMU graduates in 2007 secured job offers earlier than their seniors, with 84% securing jobs either before graduation or within a month of graduation, an increase from 80% in the 2006 cohort. Like in previous years, SMU graduates continued to secure multiple job offers, with some receiving as many as 10 or more job offers. Average starting salaries for SoA graduates also increased to S$2,940, up from S$2,880 in 2006.

2007 SoA graduates also landed jobs in a wide spectrum of professions other than accounting. Besides the Big 4 and other accounting firms, these SoA graduates have also joined banks, MNCs, management consultancies and other financial institutions.

Pleased with the strong demand for SoA graduates in the job market, Associate Professor Pang Yang Hoong, Dean of SoA, said, "Firms and companies today seek employees who are not only technically competent but also articulate, confident and able to develop and present their arguments effectively. It has always been our goal to equip our graduates with the professional skill sets that employers look out for."
